Every year, East Hants recognizes outstanding volunteers in our communities through our Volunteer Awards.
The nomination period opens annually in January and closes in February. Nominations are evaluated and nominees selected by mid-March. Successful nominees are presented their awards at a ceremony in April.
Nominations must be submitted by a representative of a registered nonprofit organization. Nominees must be associated with a registered community group(s) within the municipality.
From the pool of general Volunteer Award nominees, judges will select one volunteer as the Model Volunteer of the Year. The Model Volunteer recipient receives an engraved award and becomes the representative for the Municipality of East Hants at the Provincial Awards Ceremony hosted by the province of Nova Scotia.
The next round of nominations will take place in January 2025.

The Enfield Heritage Centre was founded by the Enfield Branch of the Women’s Institute of Nova Scotia, and was originally housed in the former United Church in Enfield. After the former church fell into disrepair, the E H Horne School Preservation offered a permanent home for the Enfield Heritage Centre in the E H Horne School.
The Enfield Heritage Centre has a lovely display of local history, artifacts and photos, in a museum like setting. We also help people in genealogy research, questions on local history, and such.
We are available to host local groups, school groups, family groups, etc., who would like to make arrangements to visit the facility. We maintain a website and Facebook page, which have generated enquires from across Canada and the USA. There was also been visits to our sites and enquires from Europe.
The Enfield Heritage Centre is very grateful for the continued support of the E H Horne School Preservation Society, Montgomery Br 133 of the Royal Canadian Legion, the Municipality of East Hants, and dedicated members of the community.
