Shubenacadie Cenotaph Update
UPDATE: December 10, 2025
The Council of the Municipality of East Hants remains committed to returning the Shubenacadie Cenotaph to its original place in the village.
Because of the current weather and the uncertain winter conditions, the work to put in a new base and move the statue back is now being planned for the first part of 2026. We know the community is eager to see the monument returned and East Hants will continue to work closely with the contractor to relocate the monument at the earliest opportunity, while ensuring the work is done in appropriate weather conditions.

The Council of the Municipality of East Hants remains committed to moving the Shubenacadie Cenotaph back to the center parking lot in the village of Shubenacadie.
For the long term preservation of the monument, Council will be putting a new base at the parking lot location and establishing a more accessible approach to the Cenotaph as part of upgrading the parking lot.
The return of the monument will be completed prior to winter but will not be done before November 11th. The Shubenacadie Legion will be hosting Remembrance Day ceremonies for 2025.
