East Hants Creates Three New Recreation Facilities
The Municipality of the District of East Hants is moving ahead with the construction of two Skateboard Parks and a Sport Pad.
Warden Jim Smith looks forward to these new recreation developments in East Hants. “Investing in recreational facilities not only supports community development, but it is essential for providing healthy activities for our young families and youth.”
Design work has begun for the Sport Pad in Noel in consultation with the Hants North Recreation Society. The multi-use facility when completed will accommodate various court sports, be suitable for creating an outdoor ice surface in the winter months (weather permitting), and be able to support staging for events and concerts.
The two Skateboard Parks will be located in Mount Uniacke and Lantz. The Mount Uniacke location is on municipal land at 622 Hwy #1. The Municipality is in the process of finalizing the lease with the East Hants Sportsplex in Lantz for use of a section of their property fronting Hwy #2.
A Request for Proposals has been issued seeking interested parties for a design-build process. As part of that process there will be public consultation sessions with youth and other interested groups to develop the design for each park.
The facilities are scheduled to begin construction in late spring and be available for use in summer 2016.
