East Hants Announces Leadership Changes

(Elmsdale, Nova Scotia) May 23, 2019 The Municipality of East Hants today announced the promotions of Kate Friars and Adam Clarkson.

Kate Friars

Kate Friars has been appointed Deputy Chief Administrative Officer (CAO) effective September 1, 2019. Kate has been in the role of Director of Parks Recreation & Culture since September 2014.

Kate has worked in municipal parks and recreation for more than 38 years having previously worked with the cities of Burnaby and Victoria in British Columbia. Since assuming the director role in East Hants, Kate has led the planning and construction of the East Hants Aquatic Centre, increased investment in trails and parks, and improved direct recreation programming in East Hants.

In her new role as Deputy CAO, Kate is looking forward to her role in leading the implementation of East Hants Council’s 2016-2020 Strategic Plan. Under Kate’s leadership, the talented team at the Municipality of East Hants will continue to focus on providing programs and services that build a strong, sustainable community.

Adam Clarkson

On June 3, 2019, Adam Clarkson will assume the role of Director of Parks Recreation & Culture. Adam has worked with the Municipality as Manager of Recreation & Aquatics for the last two years. Prior to arriving in East Hants, Adam worked in various municipal roles primarily rising through the ranks of the Town of High Level, Alberta.

Adam is excited to work closely with Council and moving forward with Council’s strategies for parks, recreation and tourism in the coming years. He will be instrumental in leading the team in the opening and operation of the new East Hants Aquatic Centre in fall 2019.

As previously communicated, Kim Ramsay will become the Municipality’s new CAO upon the retirement of current CAO Connie Nolan on September 1, 2019.
