COVID-19 Temporary Testing Site in Elmsdale

UPDATE May 4, 2020 – The temporary COVID-19 testing site in Elmsdale is now closed.

April 5, 2020

Today, the Nova Scotia Health Authority (NSHA) announced that Elmsdale is the first community in Nova Scotia with enhanced COVID-19 testing. Temporary primary assessment centres will be established in communities with more known cases.

The Municipality of East Hants houses the NSHA at the Lloyd E. Matheson Centre (15 Commerce Court) and this building will be used as a COVID-19 temporary primary assessment centre effective Sunday, April 5th, 2020. As a landlord and local government, we want to be a good community partner in this pandemic response.

If there is a need for in-person assessment, 811 will refer you to a COVID-19 assessment centre and you will be contacted for an appointment.

Please do not go to a COVID-19 assessment centre without having been referred by 811. This site is not for walk-in testing, people must be referred by 811 or a primary care physician. Patient assessments and swabbing will take place on site from 11 am – 7 pm, 7 days per week.

The safety of staff, the clients of the building and the other tenants in the building is our top priority.

NSHA will implement security and infection control protocols needed to protect/control all movement in and around the testing location. Anyone using the Lloyd E. Matheson Centre is asked to park so that social distancing can be maintained.

The team of health professionals who are mobilizing the site at the Lloyd E. Matheson Centre have everything under control. Our responsibility as their partner is to help them manage this and to support them in any way we can.
