Public Committee Member Opportunities
If you would like to help shape the future of your community please consider applying for one of the following committees. These public member positions begin in January 2021 and run for four years. The deadline for the submission of your application form is Sunday, December 6th.
Planning Advisory Committee
2 public member positions available.
This would be an exciting time to begin a role on the Planning Advisory Committee as we’re about to create planning policies and a land use bylaw for the rural area in the north of the municipality. In addition to this you would review and discuss planning applications; heritage projects; and projects regarding land use issues and opportunities. The two public members sit on the committee with all 11 Councillors. Planning Advisory Committee meets every month, usually on the third Tuesday of the month during the daytime.
Accessibility Advisory Committee
1 public member position available
We’re looking to recruit one public member who will serve for four years beginning January 2021. In May 2021, the remaining four positions on the committee will be open for renewal. The committee is made up of five public members and two Councillors. The Accessibility Advisory Committee is currently working on developing an Accessibility Plan which will be completed in Spring 2021. The committee is currently meeting approximately once a month, generally in the evening of the first Wednesday of the month. The frequency of the committee meetings may decrease once the Accessibility Plan is completed at which time the committee will serve to provide recommendations to Council on Accessibility in East Hants and the implementation of the Plan.
Agricultural Advisory Committee
2 Farmers in East Hants
The Agricultural Advisory Committee meets at least once a year in the evenings. However, the Municipality has been directed by the provincial government to create a Municipal Planning Strategy, a Land Use Bylaw, and a Subdivision Bylaw for the rural north area of the Municipality which currently has limited land use bylaw regulations in effect. Work will soon begin on developing these policies and regulations and the Agricultural Advisory Committee may have some feedback on this work. It is likely that this will mean that the committee will meet more frequently than once a year to discuss the preparation of the new documents. In addition to the five positions for which we’re currently recruiting, the committee also includes two Councillors, a representative from Nova Scotia Agriculture, and a representative from the Federation of Agriculture.
Copies of the application form are also available at the Municipal Office at 15 Commerce Court, Elmsdale. If you have any questions or would like us to mail you a copy please contact us at 902-883-3387 or firstname.lastname@example.org.
