East Hants Aquatic Centre set to call Commerce Court home
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
ELMSDALE, NS (July 28, 2016) – At Wednesday evening’s council meeting, councillors approved the purchase of land on Commerce Court, adjacent to the Lloyd E Matheson Centre, as the new location for the proposed East Hants Aquatic Centre in Elmsdale.
The Municipality had previously engaged in discussions with Choice Properties REIT to consider acquiring land by the Superstore in Elmsdale, however, it was ultimately decided that the property with the most long-term benefit for East Hants was Commerce Court.
“Building on Commerce Court provides us with the benefit of owning the land versus leasing it,” says Kate Friars, Director of Parks, Recreation & Culture. “The property is the best long-term option to taxpayers as it offers numerous municipal operating synergies and is also in close proximity to the library, health care and municipal services. Remaining on the West side of and close to highway 102 will also appeal to residents in surrounding rural areas.”
The Municipality is currently planning the future construction of the Centre and is hoping to acquire Provincial and Federal funding to support the endeavor.
