Special Meeting of Council
Thursday, March 26, 2020
On behalf of East Hants Municipal Council, I would like to thank the residents of East Hants who are doing what they can to stay home and flatten the curve. Stopping the spread of COVID-19 is our number one priority now. It’s up to us to protect each other and ourselves from this vicious virus.
I would also like to thank those essential workers, including our own municipal staff, who continue to deliver our essential services to the business community and our public.
Our March Council meeting that was to be held in Council Chambers on March 25 was cancelled. However, in order to ensure that the business of our Municipality continues and important decisions continue, we are rescheduling that meeting for tonight, Thursday, March 26, 2020.
As per a directive from Minister Chuck Porter of the Department of Housing and Municipal Affairs that municipalities must hold council meetings electronically during the COVID-19 emergency, our meeting will be virtual and the minutes posted on our website within 24 hours of the meeting.
In the meantime, here is the agenda of our Council meeting for tonight. The public hearing that was originally on the agenda has been cancelled until we find a way to allow for public participation. We’re exploring ways to make future Council meetings and public hearings interactive so that residents can participate in our democratic process. More on that to come.
We thank you for your patience as we all navigate these unprecedented times.
Thank you and stay safe,
Warden Jim Smith
Municipality of East Hants
