Join the Shubenacadie Canal Commission

The Municipality of East Hants is looking for a resident of East Hants to join the Shubenacadie Canal Commission. Meetings are held in person every two months, usually on the last Monday of the month at 5:30 p.m. at the Fairbanks Centre (54 Locks Road, Dartmouth). Meetings typically last 1 to 1.5 hours. Commissioners also participate in SCC committees.

  • The Shubenacadie Canal Commission (SCC), a non-profit charity founded in 1986, works to preserve the historic Shubenacadie Canal and promote public access for education and enjoyment.
  • It includes 15 volunteer Commissioners, including one appointed by East Hants Municipal Council.
  • Before each meeting, members are expected to review some documents.
  • There are no meetings in July, August, or December. The length of time you’ll serve on the committee will be decided by Council.
