Two Economic Development Projects Approved for East Hants

ELMSDALE, NS – – On Wednesday, June 24, 2015, Council approved funding for two significant economic development projects for the Municipality of East Hants.

“Council is very pleased to commit funding and staff resources to the development of Burntcoat Head Park and a new, modern aquatics facility,” said Warden Jim Smith. “East Hants is a growing Municipality and these two economic development projects demonstrate that East Hants is a great place to live, work and play.”

New public washrooms and stairs to the ocean floor will be built at Burntcoat Head Park to meet the needs of visitors exploring the site of the world’s highest tides.

“This decision of Council will bring us that much closer to our plan to build a new Nova Scotia icon,” said Kim MacDonald, Director of Economic and Business Development. “The Municipality has a long term plan to develop new elements into the visitor experience over the next five years at Burntcoat Head Park.”

In addition to park development, Council approved the construction of a $17 million aquatics facility in a location yet to be determined. Built in the 1960s, the East Hants Swimming Pool is a well-used six lane, 25 metre indoor pool located on three acres of land in Milford.

“We are growing our capacity in East Hants to welcome new residents and businesses who value aquatics programming and quality of life,” said Warden Smith. “A new aquatics facility will offer enhanced programming and services to support community economic growth.”

The East Hants Swimming Pool will continue to serve the community until a new facility is opened.

Through innovation and excellence in service delivery, East Hants provides municipal programs and services that continually enhance a healthy and sustainable community.
