Lantz Water Transmission Main

The Municipality of East Hants is overseeing two projects to install water transmission mains which will service the communities of Enfield, Elmsdale and Lantz.

The Lantz Water Transmission Main

Background

This project involves the construction of approximately 2.2 kilometres of water pipe, the majority of which will be installed in Lantz, with a small section being installed in Elmsdale. This water main was recommended in an Infrastructure Capacity study completed in 1998 and will serve all customers of the East Hants Water Utility in Enfield, Elmsdale and Lantz.

The new pipe will connect the existing main under Highway 214 to the water tower on Logan Drive and the existing main under Evergreen Crescent. Once completed this project will secure the long term supply of drinking water and support growth in the Municipality by providing stability to the supply of water for fire protection for residents and businesses in East Hants. This main will also improve the quality of the water as it will help to reduce the accumulation of minerals in drinking water.

Construction

A contract for the construction of this water main was awarded to Brycon Construction Limited (Brycon) on August 4. It is anticipated that work will commence during the second week of September and is expected to last for approximately 12 weeks.

  • Connecting to the existing main under Evergreen Crescent.

Nova Scotia Transportation and Infrastructure Renewal (N.S.T.I.R) will only permit work on Highway 214 to be undertaken during the hours of 7 p.m. and  6 a.m., and any work not associated with Highway 214 will be carried out during typical construction hours (7 a.m. – 7 p.m.).

The contractor will be taking every precaution to minimize disruption to residents and businesses. If you wish to discuss how the work will impact you, or have any questions relating to the construction please contact the Project Engineer, Derek Normanton by email or call on 902 883 7098 ext. 252.
