Sipekne’katik Band Submits Expression to East Hants for Land Acquisition

(INDIAN BROOK FIRST NATION, NS) – In response to a public request for expressions of interest, Sipekne’katik submitted an Expression of Interest to the Municipality of the District of East Hants to purchase the Snide’s Lake property at Exit 10, Highway 102, in Shubenacadie. This property consists of five parcels of land with a total acreage of approximately 235 acres.

Sipekne’katik intends to utilize this land for economic development, but at this time are not certain what type of development will be pursued. Sipekne’katik plans to conduct its due diligence before the final purchase of the land. This due diligence will include infrastructure and geotechnical assessments and a market feasibility study.

East Hants and Sipekne’katik have formally entered into negotiation with respect to the expression of interest. Officials of East Hants and Sipekne’katik will continue to work together towards achieving an outcome that is beneficial for our community.
