New Municipal Snow Clearing Bylaw
ELMSDALE, NS – The Municipality of the District of East Hants has approved a new snow clearing bylaw.
The intent of the new bylaw is to enable the Municipality to address safety issues that may arise during winter storms, which could delay or prevent the safe clearing and maintenance of roads and sidewalks.
Bylaw IO-100 Winter Road & Sidewalk Snow Clearing & Maintenance came into effect on December 16, 2015. The new bylaw prohibits property owners from removing snow on their own properties and placing it in the right of way of roads and sidewalks.
In addition, the bylaw prohibits the parking of vehicles on streets during winter snow events preventing crews from safely clearing snow.
Penalties for infractions of Bylaw IO-100 could range from $200 up to $5000.
