Lantz Promotes Active Living in East Hants with New Skatepark

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

(LANTZ, NS) September 10, 2016 The Municipality of East Hants and Warden Jim Smith hosted an official opening celebration to the residents of Lantz and surrounding areas in honor of their newly erected skatepark. The park was developed in partnership with the province ($53,000 contribution) and federal funding and comes as a highly anticipated addition to the community.

Warden, Jim Smith, and Lantz area Councillor John A. MacDonald welcomed the community and highlighted the project’s accomplishments and the importance of recreational services in East Hants. “The Municipality is committed to improving the recreational needs in East Hants and implementing parks that answer to the wants of residents and realize the potential of our communities,” said Jim Smith. “Council encourages and stands behind the development of parks like these and advocates for projects that promote an active and healthy lifestyle in not only youth but residents of all ages.”

On hand for a demonstration of the new facility was scooter rider Hayden Burgess, a former East Hants resident and semi-pro rider. Burgess felt privileged to have the opportunity to perform in front of friends and family and encouraged onlookers to engage in the skateboard sport.

MLA Margaret Miller brought remarks from the province and highlighted the importance of investing in youth. “Our lives are better when the love of outdoor activity begins in youth,” said Margaret Miller, MLA Hants East. “This investment, and others like it, help to make physical and community activity a part of their daily lives and contribute to stronger communities.”

Sportwheels Sports Excellence of Lower Sackville, NS, supported the event as a sponsor and hosted an after-party where they played games, gave out prizes and showcased skateboard, scooter and BMX equipment.
