Fall Hydrant Flushing

Fire hydrant flushing in the communities of Enfield, Elmsdale, Lantz and Shubenacadie starts on Monday, October 17, 2022, and will take approximately one month to complete. Work will occur between 8:30 a.m. – 11 p.m.

What to Expect

During this period, water customers may experience a temporary reduction in water pressure or water discolouration. Should this occur, customers are asked to run their water for a short time. If the discolouration of the water continues please call the 24-hour Water & Wastewater Emergency Line: (902) 883-2110. Discoloured water generally settles after flows return to normal rates and does not pose a health risk.

Hydrant flushing improves water quality by removing naturally occurring minerals that build up on pipe walls over time. Sediment is mainly comprised of very fine minerals, predominantly iron and manganese.

East Hants Water Utility thanks customers for their patience and understanding while this work is completed.
