Fall Hydrant Flushing

Fire hydrant flushing in the communities of Enfield, Elmsdale, Lantz and Shubenacadie will start on Sunday, November 1st, 2020 and is due to be completed by Tuesday, December 1st, 2020. Work will occur between 8:30 am and 11:00 pm.

During this period, water customers may experience a temporary reduction in water pressure or water discolouration. Should this occur, customers are asked to run their water for a short period of time. If the discolouration of the water continues please call the 24-hour Water & Wastewater emergency number at (902) 883-2110. Discoloured water will generally settle after flows return to normal rates. Although discoloured water may look displeasing it does not pose a health risk.

Hydrant flushing is conducted to improve water quality by removing naturally occurring minerals that build up on pipe walls over time. Any sediment is mainly comprised of very fine minerals, predominantly iron and manganese.

East Hants Water Utility thanks customers for their patience and understanding while this work is completed.
