Annual Compost Giveaway
The annual compost giveaway event is open to all residents within East Hants boundaries.
- Limit of four (4) bags per household of self-shoveled Grade A compost.*
- You can pick up compost for one (1) other household as long as you have their registration form. If you are picking up for another household, the limit is 8 bags of compost per visit.
- Bags can hold approximately 25kg each. Bags and compost are provided. You must fill your own bags and place them in your vehicle.
- Please be aware that staff are unable to assist in loading bags into vehicles.

When?
Compost will be available starting Thursday, May 4 until Wednesday, May 17, OR until it’s gone!
- Weekdays: 9 a.m. – 3 p.m.
- Saturdays: 9 a.m. – 12 p.m.
Where?
- East Hants Waste Management Centre, 1306 Georgefield Road, Upper Kennetcook
What should I bring?
- Bring your own shovel (none will be provided).
- We recommend wearing quality gloves and boots/outdoor shoes.
- Please fill out the form (below) before your visit and present it to staff when you arrive.
Community Groups
- All community groups and not-for-profits within East Hants boundaries are welcome to collect compost after May 17, if there is material left over.
- A registration form must be filled out before arriving.
- Groups are responsible for filling bags/containers and loading their own vehicles.
*What’s “Grade A” compost mean?
- There are two (2) grades of compost: Unrestricted (Grade A) and Restricted (Grade B).
- Grade A compost can be used in any application from agricultural lands, residential gardens, horticultural operations, etc.
- Grade B compost is a restricted use product due to higher trace element content and presence of foreign matter.
