Municipal Tax Assistance Program
Each year, as part of the Municipal Tax Assistance Program (MTAP), the Council sets a general exemption rate in accordance with Section 69 of the Municipal Government Act.
**Note that taxable income is less than total income. Many deductions such as child care, RRSP and union dues are deducted to calculate taxable income. You may qualify and not know it.

For the 2020/2021 taxation year, the exemption is a minimum of $227.00 or up to 20% of the applicant’s annual tax bill, whichever is the greater amount (based on a Council approved formula).
Applications for this exemption can be obtained from your Councillor, at the Municipal office, by mail or you can download the application form (until the application deadline of August 31 each year).
Proof of income, in the form of a CRA Notice of Assessment, and proof of the number of dependent children (Notice of Child Tax Benefit form the Federal Government) must accompany the application form.
- The deadline for applications is August 31st .
- Applicants must reapply annually.
