NEWS RELEASE – Response to CBC RE: More than half of Nova Scotia municipal CAOs earn over $100K.
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
(ELMSDALE, NS) August 29, 2016 – On August 29, 2016, the CBC published an article entitled: More than half of Nova Scotia municipal CAOs earn over $100K. The story included salary information pertaining to the CAO of East Hants Municipality and mention that the compensation package for the salary is an all-inclusive number that includes a base salary and retirement benefits (in-lieu of pension plan contributions).
James Smith, Warden for East Hants, responded to the CBC article this morning by providing additional context to the amount in the following comment:
“Ms. Nolan is a Chartered Professional Accountant and a Certified Fraud Examiner with over 30 years of corporate knowledge and experience. Ms. Nolan’s contract was negotiated based on her strong leadership skills and her ability to perform the challenging duties of the Chief Administrator for our growing municipality. Ms. Nolan’s salary is not out of line with similar positions in the region, including director level positions with Halifax and senior level positions with the Halifax Water Commission. East Hants has for a number of years publicly disclosed the salaries of Councillors and the Chief Administration Officer in our year-end financial statements and will continue to do so.”
The Halifax Statement of Compensation was released in August 2016 and outlines all employees who earn greater than $100,000 per year.
