Supervisor of Roads Operations

The main Municipal office is located at the Lloyd E. Matheson Centre in Elmsdale, NS.

This position is responsible for overseeing the maintenance and condition of Municipal Roads, Sidewalks, and Streetlights. The successful incumbent will manage the service contract for snow clearing, construction & excavation services, and the installation of streetlights. They will also support and coordinate the investigation and resolution of service outage reports from the public, validate new assets, and ensures asset information is current and updated. This position has supervisory oversight of the day-to-day activities of the Civil Engineering Technician(s) and is a safety champion ensuring all activities in the field are completed as per safety laws/regulations.

• Two (2) year certificate or diploma from a recognized Community College in Civil Engineering or equivalent.
• Five (5) years’ experience in a related field with a civil technician or surveying background and preferably in a government environment, or related experience.
• Previous experience overseeing or directing the work of others would be an asset.
• Skilled communicator possessing keen interpersonal skills.
• Ability to build strong working relationships with team members, across an organization, and with external groups and agencies.
• Budgeting and contract administration experience.
• Comfortable using computer databases or drawing package.
• Considerable knowledge of municipal engineering principles, practices and methods.
• Must have strong project support skills in order to coordinate projects.
• Self-starter with motivational management expertise.
• Computer proficiency in MS Office Suite including Word, Excel, Outlook.
• Experience working with financial software (i.e. SAP) and Computer Assisted Drafting (CAD) are an asset.

Salary Range: $59, 598 - $74, 496 per annum
