RCMP Officer Stationed in Enfield Dies in Active Duty

Our East Hants community, like other communities in Nova Scotia, is in mourning today.

Constable Heidi Stevenson

Our thoughts and sincere condolences go out to the family, friends and colleagues of Heidi Stevenson, the RCMP officer killed today in the line of duty. We are also thinking of the others who lost their lives and those who were injured because of this tragedy including a second RCMP officer.

Constable Heidi Stevenson was a 23-year member of the RCMP and was currently serving at the Enfield Detachment of the RCMP. Constable Stevenson leaves behind a husband, two children and many family, friends and RCMP colleagues. In honour of her life, the flags at the Lloyd E. Matheson Centre will be lowered.

This is a tragic day. But even in tragedy, it is important to give thanks.

We thank the residents who heeded the RCMP’s warnings and remained safe inside their homes. We know you were scared and feel this tragedy as deeply as we do. Let’s come together now to wrap our arms around our neighbours and RCMP officers as we process what has happened today and move forward together but apart.

We also thank all of the first responders who were on duty today and who will never forget what took place.

Finally, we thank the RCMP for apprehending the suspect and the measures they took to keep Nova Scotians safe. Today and always, I along with the Council and staff of the Municipality of East Hants stand with our RCMP.

The impact of these tragic events will affect us all in some way. If you need help, please reach out.
