Chief Engineer

The East Hants Sportsplex is a vibrant hub for sports, recreation and community events. Our facility features two arena ice pads, three year-round artificial turf fields, a Café, and three versatile multi-purpose rooms ready to host a wide range of activities. Join our dedicated team of experts in sports, recreation, customer service, hospitality, and facility operations, in an exciting community-focused environment.

The Chief Engineer is responsible for managing the day-to-day maintenance activities related to the East Hants Sportsplex and the ice plant as per the Technical Safety Act and Power Engineer Regulations of Nova Scotia. This includes supervising a team of Facility Operators and oversight of building systems, including but not limited to, preventative maintenance software, ice plant/refrigeration, building automation, HVAC, electrical, security and fire suppression.

What you can offer:

  • You hold a minimum of a Power Engineer 4th Class certification (preferred), or a Refrigeration Plant Operator 2nd Class certification.
  • You have completed a minimum of a 1-year certificate in a related field such as mechanical, facilities management, building systems, or electronics.
  • You have experience in or an understanding of ammonia refrigeration systems, automated or computerized control systems, building maintenance, heating, ventilations or air conditioning (HVAC).
  • You have several years of relevant technical experience in ice plant operations.
  • You are a strong relationship builder and communicator, and can effectively build trust in order to collaborate with your team, contractors, and the public.
  • You are a great multi-tasker, with experience managing projects and initiatives to completion, meeting your project requirements and deadlines.
  • You are comfortable with technology.
  • You have a Valid Driver’s License.
  • You are available to work a flexible schedule around the operational requirements of a sports facility, including some evenings and weekends.
