For Immediate Release – Elmsdale, NS
The Federation of Canadian Municipalities (FCM) held their Annual Conference and Trade Show in Regina, Saskatchewan, earlier this month. Themed Together for Recovery, the event gathered Municipal leaders from across the country to focus on building stronger, more inclusive and resilient communities. Warden Eleanor Roulston, Deputy Warden Norval Mitchell, Councillor Michael Perry, Councillor Walter Tingley and Chief Administrative Officer, Kim Ramsay attended the event on behalf of East Hants. During the conference, Deputy Warden Mitchell was also elected to serve on FCM’s Board of Directors.
As an FCM Board member, Deputy Warden Mitchell will help set policy priorities that reflect the concerns of municipal governments and affiliate members from coast to coast to coast. “I am looking forward to representing one of the Maritime provinces and the opportunity to work with colleagues from across the country,” said Deputy Warden Mitchell. “Building strong communities starts at home, and I am excited to work with provincial partners to make our country an inclusive place for everyone.”
Over the course of four days, the delegates from East Hants and more than 2,200 other participants took part in Canada’s fullest gathering of municipal leaders since 2019. They had the opportunity to connect with their federal counterparts through a series of keynote addresses and meetings featuring Prime Minister Justin Trudeau, Minister of Intergovernmental Affairs, Infrastructure and Communities Dominic LeBlanc, Minister of Public Safety Marco Mendicino, Shadow Minister for Infrastructure and Communities Andrew Scheer, and NDP Leader Jagmeet Singh.
