Not only is a derelict vehicle unsightly, it can contain hazardous materials that are harmful to the environment. when a derelict vehicle is collected by the Municipal contractor, everything possible is either reused or recycled following strict environmental standards.
The Derelict Vehicle Program runs throughout the year (weather permitting) and is available free of charge to any resident of East Hants. The vehicle must be accessible to a tow truck (not in the woods or partially buried by soil or vegetation) and any movable spare parts must be loaded inside the vehicle.
A member of Municipal staff will arrange to come to your home to get your written approval to remove the vehicle from your property and to mark it for identification. A contracted towing company extracts the vehicle at a later date. There is no fee for vehicle removal. Part of the cost of removing the vehicle is offset by RRFB Nova Scotia .
If you have further questions about the Derelict Vehicle Program, please contact the Solid Waste Hotline at 1-888-873-3332.
