Construction & Demolition Waste

Construction and demolition waste (C&D) may include wood, gyproc, doors and windows, concrete, fibreglas and styrofoam insulation, carpet and underlay, shingles, fixtures, or vinyl siding. This material is not collected curbside however there are a few expections such as toilets, sinks, tubs, and carpet cut in 4 ft widths (rolled and tied).

Residents and businesses are required to bring non-collectible C&D material to the East Hants Waste Management Centre. The link - Tipping Fees will outline rates for business loads for C&D waste disposal. Residents are not charged tipping fees.

If a contractor has been hired to carry out construction, demolition or renovation on your property, you are responsible to ensure that debris from the project is handled responsibly. Whether the contractor is hauling the material in their truck or has used a roll off container, ask for a copy of the weigh bill from the Waste Management Centre to confirm that material from your property was not illegally dumped.

For more information on disposing of C&D debris please contact the Solid Waste Hotline at 1-888-873-3332.
