of East Hants The Municipality of East Hants, being the largest of the four Municipal units in Hants County, is the fastest growing rural municipality in Nova Scotia. The growth rate during the latest Statistics Canada period (1996-2001) was 5.3%. Over the last 15 years, the growth rate has been documented at a phenomenal 25%. The current 2004 population is estimated at approximately 22,000. Commercial and Industrial development has followed along the same track, with major investments being made in retail and industrial projects mostly in the Airport Corridor area. The Municipality owns and operates two modern Business/Industrial parks comprised of a total of 307 acres of land, with 53 acres occupied, 8 under development, and a further 70 with new infrastructure recently installed. The East Hants Business Park, located in the Halifax/Moncton Growth Corridor, is fully serviced with municipal water, municipal sewer, 3-phase power, and high-speed internet, in the community of Elmsdale, at Exit 8, Highway 102. It is part of the growing Commercial center of East Hants, and is accommodating 29 businesses and 150 employees, and servicing customers from Halifax to Truro and beyond. With immediate access to Highway 102, the main artery of the province's highway system, the Elmsdale Business Park is conveniently located for shipping purposes, since it is only 30 minutes from Halifax or Truro and 10 minutes from the Halifax International Airport. As of this date, there is an estimated 5.2 million dollars of new construction taking place in the park and an estimated 1 million planned for 2005. The Uniacke Business Park is located on Highway 1, near Exit 3, Highway 101. The park is 125 acres and is home to 7 businesses and 3 new projects to be constructed this year. This park has 3-phase power, and has completed construction of 2 KM of new road development. It is located 15 minutes from Bedford and the Halifax Regional Municipality, and 15 minutes from Windsor.
