Warden’s Message:

When it comes to building economic prosperity, you can't underestimate the importance of location.

Since we first launched our economic development strategy for East Hants in 2006,  we've seen time and again how the right location can both support and inspire growth. As a 30-year resident of this remarkable municipality, I can say that now, more than ever, East Hants is in the right place at the right time.

Our proximity to major transportation infrastructure - be it the main provincial highway, the CN Railway, the Halifax Stanfield International Airport, or the Port of Halifax - have made us a strategic location for businesses looking to enhance their competitiveness and expand into new markets.

And as one of Canada's fastest growing municipalities, we have another crucial ingredient for growth: great people. Population growth in East Hants is outpacing the provincial average. What's more, a higher than average proportion of East Hants residents have apprenticeships, trade certificates, or diplomas. Combine this with impressive labour force participation rates, and you have a tremendous value proposition for new and existing buinesses: a motiviated, hardworking, and skilled workforce.

But economic growth isn't just about what you have. It's about what your're willing to bring to the table. And in the case of East Hants, we're bringing a strong committment to create a world-class community. Because if there's something I've learned as Warden, it's that you can plan for growth, you can wish for it, but unless you're prepared to commit to it, you'll never lift your econimic development strategy off the paper and into reality. In East Hants we don't just talk about growth, we live it.

How are we doing this? We're promoting local businesses and cultivating relationships with our stakholders to ensure entrepreneurs have the resources they need to compete. We're supporting family-friendly infrastructure such as parks, libraries, schools, and play areas to ensure the families that settle here are equipped with the tools they need to thrive. We're pricing land within our serviced, centrally located business parks at affordable rates for businesses. And we're preserving and promoting our spectacular natural environment to ensure visitors and residents alike can savour the natrual beauty of East Hants today and in the future.

Our action plan for growth incorporates a strategy that seeks to enhance and foster our unique rural and historic communities and capitalize on our considerable locational opportunities. It is a responsible roadmap for economic development that seeks to foster the continued success of existing businesses, enhance our attractiveness to new enterprise, and ensure a secure, vibrant, and prosperous future for East Hants.
