Canada Day events, which include parades, entertainment, activities and music, are hosted annually in the villages of East Hants, such as Elmsdale, Rawdon, and Shubenacadie.

For a historic event, plan to attend the 84th Regiment Annual Homecoming. The original settlers of Kennetcook, 84th Regiment of Foot, 2nd Battalion, set up an 18th century military camp.

For the culinary enthusiasts, the Biannual Herbfest in Maitland) features cooking demonstrations by Halifax area chefs, greenhouse tours, workshops and a Plant Sale Extravaganza.

Fall

Looking for a fall getaway? East Hants offers sightseeing, history and outdoor activities. Be sure to catch local cultural events:

  • Launch Days Festival & Annual World Championship Whiskey Barrel Race – celebrating Maitland’s ship-building heritage by commemorating the launch of the W.D. Lawrence, the largest wooden hulled, full rigged vessel ever built in Canada
  • Pumpkin Weight Off – the village of Stanley hosts an Annual Pumpkin weigh-off every fall
  • Fall Fun Day at Uniacke Estate – includes games, contests, music, BBQ and more
  • Annual Stanley Fly In – features camping on the field and 2-way RV hook-ups (food available all weekend)
  • Terry Fox Run (Enfield)

Winter

Experience the beautiful winters of the East Coast!

We offer the perfect conditions for snowmobiling, snowboarding, cross country skiing, winter hiking, outdoor skating, and ice fishing.

Annual Christmas festivities include the Annual Corridor Christmas Parade (Enfield), Annual Maitland Christmas Festival, Annual Christmas in the Country (Maitland), and Children’s Christmas Fun Day (Shubenacadie Fire Department)

Various outdoor and indoor activities are also part of the Milford Meltdown in February.

For those who want to stay indoors:

  • The East Hants Municipal Swimming Pool is a six lane, 25 metre indoor pool in Milford.
  • The East Hants Sportsplex is the arena complex located in Lantz.
