Emergency Management

The Municipality of East Hants Emergency Management Organization Committee is made up of stakeholders from various organizations such as:

Community Services & the Red Cross
Representatives from all the MEH departments
Public Works
RCMP
Fire
Emergency Health Services
Department of Natural Resources
Public Information Officer
Ground Search and Rescue

The Municipality's Emergency Management Organization has developed a plan to "protect the lives of people, reduce the chances of damage to property, and reduce the loss of essential services in East Hants at the time of an emergency".

Our Response to Emergencies

During an emergency the Emergency Operations Centre may be set up. This is the location where decisions are made about how to address the emergency. It will be outfitted with all the equipment needed to function around the clock, including a generator, should there be a power failure.

The Emergency Operations Centre is located at the Municipal Office in Milford.

EMO Responsibilities

Our EMO Planning Committee meets on a quarterly basis throughout the year. At our meetings, we focus on contingency planning. This involves thinking about what kinds of emergencies could happen in East Hants, and figuring out who would have to do what to minimize the impact. We also continually review our emergency plan to make updates and improvements.

Tim Hamm is the Emergency Management Coordinator (EMC) for East Hants. The EMC's job is liaising with EMO Nova Scotia and conducting training throughout the Municipality. He can be reached at 1-866-758-2299.
